Bedouin weaving is an ancient Middle Eastern craft that utilizes a flat loom made of found objects, set up and dismantled easily to accommodate the Bedouins’ nomadic lifestyle. ‘Sajjadah’ is a prayer rug woven using a primitive Bedouin loom, without innovating or changing its structure or function, to weave a ‘double weave’ which is non typical in Bedouin weaving. The double weave creates a cushioned double-layered half for kneeling and sitting, and a single-layered half for placing the hands and forehead.
Sajjadah represents Ishraq’s evolution as a weaver by hand, architect by intellect, and cultural preservationist by heart and soul.
